Volunteers are an integral part of the Las Vegas Art Museum. Each year over 230 dedicated volunteers help LVAM fulfill its mission by generously contributing time, energy and expertise to education, exhibition and collection programs, as well as to administrative operations. Below is a listing of general volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering at the Las Vegas Art Museum, please download the application and fax, email (info@lasvegasartmuseum.org), or mail it to the Museum, ATTN: "Volunteer Coordinator."
Docents study modern and contemporary art history and lead educational tours of the Museum galleries. LVAM’s Docents also visit Clark County schools, senior citizen centers, child development centers, and other suchfacilities in Las Vegas. Docent meetings are held every Thursday from 12-3pm, and the average docent time commitment is 10 hours/week.
Event Support
Volunteers serve during exhibition openings and other special evenings by assisting at the check-in and membership tables and serving as hosts in the galleries. Volunteers occasionally help arrange and serve food and beverages at Museum special events.
Meetings are held prior to an event, and the weekly time commitment varies by event.
Gallery Preparation
Our Preparator needs help with packing/unpacking artwork, labeling, painting, adjusting lights, and some light carpentry projecs when installing exhibitions. There are no meetings for these volunteers, and the weekly time commitment varies by the exhibition.
Museum Store and Admissions Desk
LVAM needs enthusiastic volunteers to welcome visitors, sell memberships, and provide excellent customer service at our Front Desk and Store. Volunteers must be friendly and enjoy working with people.
There are no weekly meetings, and volunteers work three-four one hour shifts as scheduled.
Community Outreach
The Community Outreach Committee participates in local public events such as 1st Friday, 3rd Thursday in Henderson, Nevada Ballet performances, and local art festivals. Volunteers disseminate information about the Museum, its programs, and membership opportunities at LVAM tables and booths.
These volunteers meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7pm and have a weekly time commitment of one to three hours.
Office Support and Interns
Volunteers are needed in all departments to help with filing, mailing and other day-to-day activities in the office that are an integral part of the museum's success. Interns assist the staff with special projects as they learn about the procedures of a contemporary art museum. College students may be able to receive academic credit for their time as an intern.
