702 Series: Stephen Hendee, Be My Suicide
702 Series: Stephen Hendee, Be My Suicide
February 20 to April 27, 2008

On February 19, 2008, the Las Vegas Art Museum will present a site-specific installation by Stephen Hendee, the third installment in LVAM’s ongoing 702 Series. Entitled Be My Suicide, the exhibition will examine the darker recesses of the artist’s evolving sculpture and installation practice. Presented as a series of enigmatic site constructions, digital objects, and images within the Studio Gallery space, the opening night will host an experimental sound performance utilizing new musical instruments, designed and played by Hendee. The exhibition will pose the question to viewers: "When nothing compels us more than to loose everything we care for, whose suicide is it?"

Stephen Hendee is an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada and also serves as the Studio Graduate Program Coordinator. He received his M.F.A from Stanford University and has exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri; the Birmingham Museum of Art in Birmingham, Alabama; and the Rice University Art Gallery in Houston, Texas.

The Las Vegas Art Museum’s 702 Series features solo exhibitions by artists who were born or raised in Las Vegas, who initiated their careers in Las Vegas, or who presently live and work in the our city. The series showcases works by artists who represent Las Vegas in the broader national and international art communities.
