Randi Chaplin initiates the Las Vegas Art Museum’s 702 Series with a presentation of recent paintings and drawings. The 702 Series features solo exhibitions by artists who were born or raised in Las Vegas, initiated their careers in Las Vegas, or presently live and work in our city. Randi Chaplin was born and raised in Las Vegas. After living for extended periods in Miami and New York, where she has been exhibiting in various galleries and institutions, she returned to Las Vegas to continue her practice and raise a family.
Chaplin’s paintings and drawings present imaginative and expressive images that represent the artist’s feelings about life in Las Vegas. Chaplin draws inspiration from the local desert landscape, bright colors of the Las Vegas Strip, diversified culture of Las Vegas, and, most profoundly, her own family life. Her works carry on the American Regionalist tradition, while modifying that tradition with elements of Symbolism, Expressionism, and Postmodern art.
